Even as a child, doing art work was my favorite pastime. Years later a former teacher reminded me that most of my work books were embellished with drawings and fanciful borders of every description – especially if I  wasn’t fond of the subject she was attempting to teach.

Being raised in the country, we didn’t have access to art galleries or to the wonderful art supply stores that we now enjoy. We were never taught anything about colour theory, so I kept trying to invent a new colour that had never before been seen!

I attended Ryerson to study dress design but soon realized that this was not the direction I wanted to pursue, so then I switched to commercial art. Soon after that, I married a fellow student in 1957.

Married life with four children took us to several parts of the country and in each place I was fortunate to be able to partake in art studies in Ottawa, Kingston, Ontario., Sept-Iles, Quebec and in Labrador City, Nf. Presently, I am finishing a Fine Arts program at St. Lawrence College in Brockville, Ontario.

It would be difficult for me to say which painting medium is my favourite one, because I equally enjoy working in oils, acrylics and soft pastel. After finishing a painting in one of these, the next is always in a different one, and I find this exciting, as each medium necessitates an entirely different technique and application.

Sixteen years ago we returned to Chaffey’s Lock on the Rideau Canal to my family home and for the last 12 years have had an art studio in the old summer kitchen.

Cedars Arts Studio is opened year round and some of the happiest times are spent there painting, with the wood stove burning and listening to some good music with our pets stretched out nearby.

Living in the Chaffey’s Lock area of the Rideau Canal provides an endless inspiration each season, with its quiet beauty and unhurried life style.

You are cordially invited to visit Cedars Art Studio and I look forward to meeting you!  Be sure to have a look at  my website to see more of my work.
