Robin Laffier is a contemporary realist artist who recently relocated from Hamilton Ont. To Portland Ont. where he joined the Rideau Lakes Artist Association.
Robin has a passion for recreating historic and transportation images in oil on canvas. He carefully researches the subject matter for each piece to create scenes ranging from epic sea battles and stories, urban landscapes, historic ships, railways, and other transportation related material. Painting in a realistic style using bold colours, Robin strives for accuracy and detail in his work while keeping the finished product very much a “painting”.
Robin grew up in a home where his parents were also artistically inclined, they supported his artistic endeavours throughout his development as an artist. He is a self-taught artist, who’s artistic influences include Kenneth Shoesmith, Lawren Harris, and Ken Marschall.
Robin joined the Hamilton “Tiger Group” of artists in 2001 and working with group artists, Bill Powell, Rick Cook, Conrad Furey, and John Stirling, he expanded his artistic talents and exposure through regular group shows at their studio gallery and other outlets, including the Dorland Haight Gallery (Milton /Dundas, Ont.), Sunrise Gallery, (Hamilton, Ont.), The Pearl Company, (Hamilton, Ont.) Robin’s works have also been featured at the Art gallery of Hamilton art rental and sales, Parker Pierce Gallery, Sunrise Gallery, Gallery 435, Dundas Valley School of Art Auction.
Branching off from the Tiger Group, Robin started the Montmarte Studios with fellow artist and friend John Stirling. And held numerous successful openings and art shows including the Port Colbourne Art Crawl, and the Ancaster Model Railroad show and the Haldimand River Arts Festival.
Rob's works are part of many Private and Public Collections including, St. Peter’s Hospital Hamilton, International Marine Recycling, Port Colbourne, the collection of Chris Eckland, Ancaster, Ont. Robin is currently creating new works that showcase his new home in the Rideau Lakes, Smiths Falls area.
